Pros and Cons

The Pros and Cons of Remote Learning

Covid-19 had taken a toll on all of us. But, for kids, school has changed more than we ever would have imagined. A study shows that remote learning sent 52% of elementary school kids into remote learning in the fall of 2020. Doing school from home has its advantages and disadvantages. Today I’m going to talk about the pros and cons of remote learning.

Let’s start the good stuff. Remote learning has its advantages and the first one would be that you can do your school from anywhere. Because of Zoom you can be in school and not be anywhere near the school. Zoom has allowed kids to pretty much never miss school. If you participate in something in your life that requires you to be quarantined pretty much all the time, it is easy to go full remote. Remote learning has allowed learning to be more flexible.

Another convenient thing about remote learning is that teachers can organize assignments easier. In Google Classroom, the teacher can put all the assignments under that day so the kids will know what they will be doing that day. Yes there can be technical difficulties but if kids are on Zoom, then they will be able to help the teachers. If kids aren't on zoom,(if it is an a-synchronous day), They can just email the teacher to get their problem fixed.

Remote learning can be helpful, but it also has its disadvantages. If you are doing school work from home there can be many distractions. If you are at home kids can be using their phones or playing games on their computers or watching YouTube. If the kids are distracted, they may get a lower grade because they

missed important information. In class I can tell when someone isn’t paying attention to the zoom. I can tell because when the teacher asks a question and the kid doesn’t answer for a couple of seconds and then says, What was the question again? That is called being caught in the act. Another small con about remote learning is that if the kids need a new workbook, it will be harder for the remote kids to get it. Their parents can drive to the school and get it, but it can just be a hassle because. if the kid forgets to tell their parents, they won’t have the book when they need it.

In this pandemic every kid can relate to these pros and cons. No matter what life throws at us, we will have to be flexible and change when we need to. If you work hard at home, everything will be fine and you will get a good grade.

    1. I like both remote and in person. I like them both because I get to see other people in school, and at home I can relax more.

  3. I liked how you wrote the blog, and how you explained the pros and cons instead of just listing them. I think it is easier to learn in school, because there are more distractions at home. Do you like in person or remote learning better?
